BMW M3 E90 Differential repair warnings & problemsposted on 1 February 2018 | posted in BMW Differential and axle noiseThe BMW M3 rear diff for all cars built from about 2005 of the E9* type uses ball roller bearings on the pinion and taper roller on the differential. Correct BMW pinion bearing preload is critical from the start. Some will offer a taper roller bearing to replace the smaller ball roller bearing, but this is not sensible. How will you establish the correct pinion preload with mixed bearing types ? Maybe ask your supplier to explain how to do it before you buy. As both style of bearing were used on different types of differential from the factory, they would run completely different preloads. Your only choice of BMW pinion bearing preload will be "too tight" or too loose" For more help on this subject please get in touch below.......
