The Ford Sierra Cosworth.

The Sierra Cosworth came about because Ford wanted to dominate motorsport & win.. In those days, if you wanted to race in touring car competitions, you had to build road-going versions of your race car. Ford teamed up with British engineering legends Cosworth to create a car that could handle the track but still work as an everyday drive. The result...... A car that was both practical and capable of blowing the doors off its rivals.

Models...

1, Ford Sierra RS Cosworth (1986-1987)
This was the original and some would argue the best. It had a three-door hatchback design and a huge rear spoiler that screamed "fast". Built for speed, it quickly became the car every Ford fan wanted to own.

2, Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth (1987)
A limited edition model that took things to the next level. Only 500 were ever made, making it a rare car. It had a bigger turbo, more power, & a few tweaks that made it unbeatable on the track. If you see one today, it's worth a fortune.

3, Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth (1988-1992)
By the late '80s, Ford decided to make the Cosworth a bit more grown-up. They turned it into a four-door saloon, making it look a bit more sensible while keeping all the power under the bonnet.

4, Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4 (1990-1992)
For those who wanted better grip, Ford added four-wheel drive. It made the car even quicker off the line and better in the wet, showing that the Cosworth was always ahead of its time.

What made the Sierra Cosworth special was its engine – a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine known as the Cosworth YB. It was based on Ford's Pinto engine but improved. With up to 224 bhp in the RS500 and loads of torque, it could hit 0-60 in just over 5 seconds..

And the beauty was You could tune it to go even faster. Many people did, and the YB engine became a favourite with race enthusiasts who wanted to push the boundaries of speed.


The Original 2wd Sierra Cosworth came with a five-speed manual gearbox, the T5, built to handle all that power. In the 4x4 version, the gearbox was adapted MT75 4x4 & drove all four wheels, giving you grip and control even when you pushed it hard.


The Sierra Cosworth had a look that matched its performance. The big spoiler wasn't just for show – it helped keep the car stable at high speeds. The alloys were distinctive, and the whole car had an aggressive yet classy style.

Popular colours included:

- Diamond White
- Moonstone Blue
- Mercury Grey
- Radiant Red

The RS500 came in just three colours: Black, White, and Moonstone Blue.

The Sierra Cosworth was a car of its time, but its reputation has lasted. Back in the day, it was the car that people aspired to own. On the track, it dominated touring car racing, going up against BMWs and winning. On the road, it was fast, practical, and just plain cool.
