Measuring crown wheel and pinion gear backlash with a dial indicator gauge


Here is a simple short video showing how the backlash is measured between the crown wheel gear teeth and pinion gear teeth on a BMW differential fitted with a ZF limited slip diff.


Dial indicator gauges with magnetic blocks are available from about £20 on the web HERE and using one will help you to be sure your diff is rebuilt to within manufacturers tolerances .
